Trump Camp Calls for Romney to Humiliate Himself to Become Secretary of State

Mitt "47 Percent" Romney is no favorite of the left. He lost the 2012 election badly, against a vulnerable President Obama who bombed the first debate amid a sluggish economic recovery. His track record on outsourcing, his views on average Americans, and his rigidity as a candidate all bogged down what might have been a winning campaign.

In an interesting turn of events, Romney has been proven right on Russia. He was mocked for claiming that Russia was our largest geopolitical threat back in 2012. With increasing evidence that Russia played a role in boosting the Trump campaign, perhaps we should have been watching them a bit more closely.

But now, with President-elect Donald Trump making his picks for cabinet-level offices, Romney is facing an unprecedented call for a public apology before he could be offered America's top diplomatic position.

Fox News is reporting that many in the Trump inner circle want Mitt Romney to apologize for slamming Donald Trump as a fraud and a phony during the presidential campaign. Romney famously said that "dishonesty is Donald Trump's hallmark." Romney also mocked Trump for telling Americans that he is "very, very smart."

Trump supporter Mike Huckabee says that Romney must "repudiate everything he said in that famous Salt Lake City speech."

I am no Romney fan, but the man is worth hundreds of millions of dollars and has more presidential qualities than Trump could ever dream to have. He does not have to, and should not, lower himself and grovel at the feet of The Donald to get a job he doesn't need, and shouldn't want.

How is Mitt Romney going implement a Trump foreign policy? He said Trump's ideas would make the world less safe. His job would be to implement Trump's foreign policy. This is not a good fit.

If Romney apologizes to Donald Trump, he will lose what little standing he still has in national politics. His legacy will be reduced to a fine powder.
